How many Americans depend on federal support programs — Social Security, disability, SSI, food assistance, health coverage, and rental vouchers. Every figure comes directly from the administering federal agency and is refreshed daily. Counts are national totals; a person can appear in more than one program.

Programs report on different schedules, so the "as of" period varies by program: Social Security, Medicaid, and CHIP are monthly, while the SNAP figure is an annual Census estimate of households (not people) and is therefore not same-period comparable.
